Article of the Week #4

Here is the article of the week. Most of you are completing this in class in the computer lab, the questions are in an earlier post. Remember, answer in complete sentences and in a paragraph! The questions I have given you can all flow together in a good paragraph. A good paragraph = a good grade! Ha! I found the article on a site called Good. :-)

This is an article from the New York Times about a school in the Los Angeles area that is just being completed. This is current. This is relevant. I really, really want to know what you think. Read it carefully. Pay attention. Read and think. Think and read. Read again and then respond to the questions.

Article of the Week is meant to be a pretty easy assignment, but you are supposed to engage your brain cells. It is not a seek and destroy assignments (where you just look for the answers and copy them down). You all have a unique perspective, you all bring something different to the group, think, and think, and then think some more. Then share your thoughts with the rest of us!

Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance is the title of this article. It came from the New York Times. It was written on September 4,2010 by Adam Nagourney. The purpose of this article is to show how schools need money, and how people can help. The intended audience is adults who are interestes in the economy. In this article they talk about the budget crisis and how people are mad about the state spending so much money on a school. There were 2,200 teachers laid off last year. It is sad that people are mad that they are spending so much on a school dedicated to Robert F. kennedy even if it is for a good reason.

The article Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance was published on the New York Times website on September 4, 2010. The article was written by Adam Nagourney. The purpose of this article was to make you think about what you thought about this situation. The main idea was to explain to everyone what is going on with the school being opened up in Los Angeles. The article explains why the school is being opened up and what is going into the school. It also explains why parents think this school should and shouldnt be opened up. My thoughts is that people shouldnt be "attacking" this school but also they shouldnt be spending so much money on the school. I do hope that the school will be a success.

The title of this article is Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance and it came from the New York Times. It was written by Adam Nagourney and was posted on September 4, 2010. It's purpose is to show people about the budget is effecting everything, from building a new school, to how many teachers there are. The intended audience is Adults. The main idea of this article is to show people that a tribute to Robert F. Kennedy could be taken totaly the wrong way, just because of the cost. Things that support this are quotes from politicians and people who understand what is going on. I think that it would be a good idea to build the school because lack of classrooms is such a growing problem within our state.

"Intended as Tribute, Criticized as extravagance," is an article that was found in the New York Times. The article was written by Adam Nagourney on September 4, 2010. Over 600 million dollars was put into this amazing school, and people have mixed emotions about it. The purpose portraid was that its wrong how teachers are getting laid off and losing money because of this school. The intended audience for this article was mainly for adults. The idea was that this school was wrong to make. It was wrong to make because teachers were being laid off because of it, and money that could have been used somewhere else is being used in that school. My reaction to this article was that it was a good idea to give a good school to underprivelidged kids, but they shouldnt have made it so expensive.

It obviously aimed toward people in the school district. the purpose was to aware people that the school is being built and how the author is awaring people that it is costing a lot of money. I am half and half on this. I like it because we are paying tribute to Robert Kennedy, but I am against it if it is going to cost a lot of money. And I'm not quite sure why they would put it where he was assasssinated? It seems to me it would just remind people of the tragic event.

i think the purpose of this article is to inform us readers:kids, teens, and adults, all poeple, about this whole situation about the school, and different perspectives that people have, good or bad.
The main idea of this story is that its wrong that they built this 600 million dollar school while 2,200 teachers are getting layed off.
A supportingg idea is they got a week of school off.
My thought of this article is that the Kennedy school is a good thing, because its what he always wanted and its going to help poor kids and tenns in Los Angeles. Then its also bad because the economy its just going to get worse.

My thoughts about this article is that my reaction to the new school could go either way,the amount of money was ridiculous but the reason for buliding that school is a very good reason.

Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance is an artice that came from the New York Times written by Adam Nagourney on September 4, 2010. The purpose of this article was to talk about a new school that replaced a hotel, the cost of the school was $578 million. The intended audience is students, adults. The main idea of this artice is to inform people about the school, and the historical place it was built on where Robert F Kennedy was shot and killed, the cost and the reactions and thoughts of the people. "six pilot schools to serve 4,200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, built on 24 landscaped acres in the densely settled Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. There is a 12-foot-deep swimming pool and a faculty lounge that replicates the Ambassador’s sleek Art Deco coffee shop, down to the soft, curved orange banquettes. The auditorium, in its detail, lighting and use of color, is a jaw-dropping tribute to the Cocoanut Grove nightclub that was in the center of the Ambassador complex." From the article. My reactions and thoughts to this artice is, WOW what the heck are these people doing!? The United States have a huge debt and people are just spending money on an unneeded school when Los Angeles laid off 2,200 teachers and cut a week off from school

Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance, was an article found in the New York Times on September 4th,2010, written by Adam Nagourney. This article was intended on telling all sides of the story, about the new school, that was just built in Los Angeles for the low income citizen students in the Los Angeles area. Many people in the city of Los Angeles disagree with the building of the new school, dedicated to Mr. Robert Kennedy. Although he was a memorial person in our world, citizens don't agree that this new school is getting built, although a whole week of school got cut, and teachers were getting laid off beause of the budget cuts. This project should have never passed because of all the cuts and losses in the Los Angeles area. Many citizens, on the other hand, think that because these people don't have very much in their life, they should have a nice, safe place to go to school. These students should be able to have a nice school to go to, even though their homelife might not be as lucky as their educational experience. As i read this article, i thought that even though these students might not have a stable household, it is not fair to build an extremely expensive school for them. They shouldn't take away from the more priveledge students, and give more to the non priveledged. Although, the school is a nice way to memorialize Robert Kennedy in a safe environmental place where students can go to school. All in all, my opinion on this article, is i do not like the new school being built in Los Angeles.

This is because by the sound of it, it sounds like it would be a good school to go to. It also sounds sort of bad because of how much money they spent on it and how we are in an economic crisis.

Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance

In the New York times September 4th, 2010, Adam Nagourney posted a blog about a school that cost over $ 600 million to construct. The school is being built in memorial For Robert Kennedy by Paul Schrade. This was posted to convince people that building this school is a bad idea. I think the author was trying to reach out to the People of out nation and tell them how building this school is a bad idea. The economy is Bad enough and a $ 600 million dollar school isnt going to help it. The article states how the Los Angeles School Official are embarassed of this act that Mr. Schrade is trying to pull. The expense of this school isnt helping our naitons problems either,it states how over 2,200 teachers were laid off last year and how this project is cutting into current teachers salarys. I find it completely irrational to build a school that cost around $ 600 million dollars, especially in these hard times this project should be shut down for good. What we need to do is focus on our economy not a $ 600 million dollar school that Probably wont even make it! time may be hard and a school for unwealthy families may sound great but lets look at the facts! they do NOT need to be adding all these pointless htings to the school, they dont need a swimming pool, they dont need a teachers lounge that looks like a cafe, and they sure dont need 2 soccer feilds! this school may SOUND like a good idea or seem like one in our minds but in reality it will cause major problems for this economy in the future. Besides i dont think a school meant for 4,200 kids from Kindergarden to 12th grade is going to work out very well, there are different schoool for each grade for a reason. I can only hope that they will stop and reconsider this school before it has a even bigger effect on this poor economy we are living in now.

Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance, this article is from the New York Times. In the article it tells that a historic site was demonished and replace with a school. Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in the pantry. After the hotel went bankrupt, it was 20 years later that a school was built over it. There was a battle over the historic hotel and it made a lot of Robert F. Kennedy followers mad because the school was going to get rid of everything that was proof that the president was there. The school was also going to be a burden, It will cost 20 million dollars. Leaving 2,200 teachers job less, and many others being ask to take a pay cut.

the title of this article is "Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance" by Adam Nagourney in the New York Times. It was published on September 4, 2010. The article was targeted towards the people of our nation saying how stupid it is to spend over $ 600 million dollars on a school. The school costs so much because of the things their trying to put inside of it. I think its kinda stupid to spend so much on a school.

This is in response to the comment of Jasmine B5. I agree with her because making a new school will ba a even bigger effect on this poor economy that we are living in now.Instead of building a school for Mr. Robert F. Kennedy they should build houses or give food to the poor. They should make a special day for him which all of us will celebrate every year instead of wasting millions of dollars building a school. Also, why would they build a school in Los Angeles if it is full of schools.

The title of this article of the week is "Intended as Tribute, Criticized as Extravagance". The article came from the New York Times it's by Adam Nagourney and the date it came out is September 4, 2010. The purpose of this article I think is to inform people what is going on with the spot where Robert F. Kennedy got shot. The intended audience is people involved in schools (teachers, board members, etc.). The main idea of this article is what's your opinion on the building of the school that is on the site where Robert F. Kennedy got shot. The supporting ideas are from the other people and the news papers that wrote/commented about this subject. People shouldn't get so upset that they are making more jobs for laid off teachers and places to go in overcrowded LA schools. I think that the school is a good idea and a good historical place.
